I finally ticked something off my “to-do” list that I’ve been planning for a long time.
I’ve always been an avid reader, and I know that what I’ve read has played a huge role in my development as a person and as a photographer.
So today I’m happy to launch The Bookshelf here at Photo Proventure.
What is the Bookshelf?
The Bookshelf is a collection of the best photography books I’ve read or own. The intention is to share with you the books that have elevated the art and/or business of my photography.
Some have been borrowed at the library, but most sit on the shelf so that I can refer to them when I need to.
You’ll notice that for each book I’ve written a short description and included a link to the Book Depository where you can get the book.
If you choose to buy the book at the Book Depository after clicking on a link, I will receive a small commission on the purchase. The great thing is that you still get the exact same price as you would if you went to the site another way. Using the affiliate links helps to support this blog without any negatives to you (and you might even feel better that money is going toward improving this blog rather than to the bottom line of a large corporation).
I chose the book depository because of they offer free shipping worldwide. As someone living in Australia, I often see people affiliate with large retailers in the US that keep these benefits for their home market only. I’ve ordered many things through the Book Depository over the years and never had an issue. They almost always have the book I’m looking for, at a good price and send it with free shipping.
Of course you can also buy there books at your local bookstore and other online retailers.
The Best Photography Books
I’ve split The Bookshelf into sections:
- Core Library – This is where the best of the best books can be found. These are the ones I’ve enjoyed the most, have made the biggest difference and will always have in my personal library.
- Photography Books – There’s a ton of photography books out there, so where do you start? On this page I have what I consider to be the best photography books I’ve ever read.
- Business & Reference – If you’re looking to make photographer a career, or just want some books with great business insights, this list is the one for you.
- Relationship Building & Personal Development – Most people overlook how important relationship building and personal development are on our success as a photographer. I can tell you that without these books, no amount of technical skill would have led me to where I am today.
So have a look around The Bookshelf and see if you agree with which books I think are the best.
If you have any suggestions for additional books for me to read and add to the list, let me know in the comments below or get in touch!
